Great Western Railway (GWR) will on Thursday 30 June unveil the first of a fleet of new Hitachi built trains as part of a special journey celebrating 175 years to the day since the very first train ran on the line between Bristol and London.
Hitachi Rail Italy S.p.A. today announced that it was awarded a contract by Trenitalia to build 39 trains with 5 cars each, worth 333 million Euros. The contract award is part of a framework agreement to build up to 300 regional trains, for a total amount of approximately 2.6 billion Euros. The new fleet will operate across the Italian regional network of over 16,000 km.

Manufactured and assembled in Italy, at the factory in Reggio Calabria, the cars are completed, furnished and equipped with all the foreseen technological innovations, in the HRI site of Pittsburgh in California and transported to Hawaii.
