Intercity Express EMU3000 for the Taiwan Railways Administration receives one of the world’s most prestigious design awards
EMU3000, a rail train car manufactured by Hitachi Ltd. (“Hitachi”) for the Taiwan Railway Administration (“TRA”) has received one of the world’s most prestigious design awards, the “iF DESIGN AWARD 2022”, jointly with the TRA.
The iF DESIGN AWARD is an internationally prestigious design award sponsored by “iF International Forum Design GmbH”, based in Hanover, Germany, for over half a century - since 1953. Industrial products submitted from all over the world are comprehensively evaluated for originality and innovation in design and functionality, such as ease of use, quality, and consideration for the environment, and awarded for outstanding design. The iF DESIGN AWARD 2022 received approximately 11,000 entries from 57 countries and regions.
The EMU3000 is an electric intercity express train that operates throughout Taiwan. The train’s exterior is noted for expressing restraint and silent velocity, while the interior creates a calm and concise space. Hitachi Rail was commissioned to deliver 600 of the EMU3000 train cars in 2019, in a contract worth approximately 160 billion yen. The first EMU3000 train car entered service in December 2021 and the order will be fulfilled in 2024.
