  • Hitachi Rail Europe selects Nomad Digital for On Board Server solution for IEP

    Hitachi Rail Europe today selected Nomad Digital to provide an On Board Server (OBS) solution for the Hitachi Class 800/801 fleet for the IEP. The OBS provides a single gateway for transmission of all operational data between train and trackside. Data transmitted includes train diagnostics from the Train Management System, energy consumption, seat reservation, daily timetable information.

    Hitachi Europe a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. today announced the launched of its European Rail Research Centre (ERRC) to support the global growth of Social Innovation Business. The ERRC will be located within the Hitachi Rail Europe Ltd. office in central London and will be part of Hitachi Europe’s Transportation Energy & Environment Research Laboratory, European Research Division.

  • Hitachi Receives Order for UK Railway Traffic Management System Prototype

    Hitachi Rail Europe has received an order for a prototype traffic management system from Network Rail in England, Scotland and Wales. Network Rail will test and evaluate prototypes ordered from Hitachi and two other companies, and based on the outcome, it will make a decision regarding the future roll-out of traffic management across the entire rail network in Great Britain.

    Hitachi, Ltd. today announced that it has developed a SiC hybrid inverter for rail cars that is compatible with 1,500V DC overhead power supply. Hitachi employed silicon carbide (SiC) to reduce equipment size and weight, and cut power loss. SiC is attracting attention as a next-generation material to replace silicon (Si), expected to lead to smaller power modules and simpler cooling systems.

Winning the Project of the Year award, the High Speed ‘preview’ service brought high speed to the UK six months early.
