Trenitalia and Hitachi Rail Italy present Rock
This is the brand name chosen for the new double deck regional train that Hitachi Rail Italy is realizing for Trenitalia (Italian Railways Group).
A new mock-up scale 1:1 was unveiled today at the Hitachi Rail Italy plant of Pistoia and the realization of the train started.
The event was attended by Renato Mazzoncini, CEO of FS Italiane, Tiziano Onesti, Chairman of Trenitalia, Barbara Morgante, CEO of Trenitalia, and Maurizio Manfellotto, CEO of Hitachi Rail Italy.
The framework agreement signed by Hitachi Rail Italy and Trenitalia provides for the possibility to supply up to 300 trains for a total amount of about 2.6 billion euro.
The fleet is part of the new supply of 450 new trains for the regional transport, for a total value of 4 billion euro.
The new Rock train, composed by 5 cars, 136 m long and 2.8 wide, will have a total capacity of 656 passengers (top of range of the sector), and 4 motor bogies that will allow to reach a speed of 160 km/h with an acceleration of more than 1 m/sec^2.
The train, characterized by light alloy carbodies, traction motors distributed along the entire vehicle and wide passengers areas, will allow performances unique on the market in terms of weight per passenger, transport capacity per length unit, consumption per passenger/km (-30% with respect to the more recent trains in operation in Italy) and will guarantee different fittings of the interiors and different arrangements according to the diverse operation requirements of the Regions customers.
The new train, with a completely made in Italy look, represents a generation gap with respect to the present double deck trains operating in Italy, thanks to the technological innovation of the components, the optimization and mounting of traction elements on the upper part of the carbody (roof) to make the interior completely available to the passengers, who will enjoy the maximum of comfort also thanks to the ergonomic seats in eco leather.
