  • Hitachi Rail Europe HR team success

    The HR team at Hitachi Rail Europe Ltd. (HRE) in Newton Aycliffe is celebrating after being crowned the HR&D team of the year at the North East of England CIPD awards. The Hitachi team was recognised at an industry event for its recruitment and training processes that have seen over 500 new people recruited from over 16,000 applications last year.

  • Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and UK Prime Minister David Cameron visit Hitachi Train Maintenance Centre

    Hitachi Rail Europe (HRE) was proud to host Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Prime Minister David Cameron at its recently refurbished North Pole train maintenance centre in West London. As part of a UK visit by the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr Shinzo Abe joined UK Prime Minister David Cameron for a tour of the rail facility, which will serve as one of the maintenance centres for new IEP trains.

  • Hitachi Rail Italy presents the first train of the new Metro of Honolulu

    Directly from Hawaii, Hitachi Rail Italy unveiled yesterday the first of 20, 4-cars vehicles planned for the new metro of Honolulu. Manufactured and assembled in Italy, at the factory in Reggio Calabria, the cars are completed, furnished and equipped with all the foreseen technological innovations, in the HRI site of Pittsburgh in California and transported to Hawaii.

  • TransPennine Express and Angel Trains orders 95 Inter-City rail carriages from UK manufacturer Hitachi

    The new TransPennine Express franchise, operated by FirstGroup has been given the go-ahead to complete a new rolling stock contract with Hitachi Rail Europe to supply 95 brand new, state of the art train carriages. The contract, for the fleet of AT300 ‘Inter City’ trains will lead to the procurement of 19 five-car Hitachi AT300 bi-mode trains, operating on both electric power and diesel power.

  • Contract Award for Thailand Red Line Construction Project

    Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., Hitachi, Ltd. and Sumitomo Corporation were awarded a contract by State Railway of Thailand to design and build an Electric and Mechanical system, as a full turn-key package, for Red Line Construction Project. The contract price is approximately 32.399 billion Thai Baht and completion of the construction is expected in 2020.

  • Completed the construction of the first train of the new metro of Honolulu

    ​ Hitachi Rail Italy has finished the setting up of the first out of 20 vehicles with 4 cars planned for the new metro of Honolulu. From the HRI facility in Pittsburg, California, the vehicle completed with interiors - destination the island of Hawaii - has in fact left.

  • Virgin unveils the Virgin Azuma!

    Virgin Trains has unveiled the first of its new fleet of trains in a ceremony at King’s Cross attended by Sir Richard Branson. Set to revolutionise travel on the East Coast from 2018, the Virgin Azuma will be one of the most advanced trains on the UK’s rail network, and will embody the customer-centric approach which Virgin Trains is famous for.

  • Hitachi Rail USA, the American subsidiary of Hitachi Rail Italy, is pleased to announce the completion of a manufacturing facility for Miami Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works’ new Metrorail vehicles

    ​The 140,400 square-feet plant, located in Medley, FL., will manufacture 136 cars and 272 motor bogies to replace the County’s Metrorail fleet. The Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works contracted the production to Hitachi Rail. The plant was completed in approximately six months and received the Certificate of Occupancy the first week of January 016.

  • Manufacturing – not just a man’s world

    Hitachi Rail Europe (HRE) celebrated International Women’s Day by holding a ‘Ladies Day’ recruitment event at their rail vehicle manufacturing facility in Newton Aycliffe on Tuesday, 8th March. The facility was opened by the Prime Minister in September last year.

  • Faster, Longer, Greener ‘train’ unveiled at Edinburgh Waverley

    From today [10 February], customers can step on board the next generation of electric trains for Scotland. Transport Minister, Derek Mackay, unveiled a life-size model of the interior of ScotRail’s flagship new fleet at Edinburgh Waverley. It will be open for public visits until Friday 4 March.

  • Hitachi Rail Italy to manufacture AT300 trains for GWR in the West of England

    ​Hitachi Rail Italy today announces that a new fleet of AT300 trains for the UK train operating company Great Western Railway (GWR) will be manufactured at Hitachi Rail Italy’s facility in Pistoia. Hitachi Rail Europe finalised a deal in July 2015 to supply and maintain 29 brand new AT300 trains for the GWR franchise.

  • 40 million contract with Ferrovie Nord Milano for new TSR

    Hitachi Rail Italy signed a contract, for 40 million euro, for the manufacturing of new TSR (regional trains) that will implement the fleet of Ferrovie Nord Milano. HRI will realize 4 vehicles with 4 cars, which will be delivered to the customer between July 2017 and November 2017.
