HITACHI RAIL ITALY signs Framework Agreement with Trenitalia for new double deck regional trains

"It will be a train never seen before in Europe, in line with the highest safety and comfort standards. A vehicle that will change the Italian transport system". With these words, the CEO of Hitachi Rail Italy, Maurizio Manfellotto, commented today on the signing of the Framework Agreement with Trenitalia. The contract to build 300 new double deck Caravaggio trains is the result of a tender award by the State Railways group for a total amount of approximately 2.6 billion Euros.

The Framework Agreement runs over 6+3 years, during which Trenitalia will order the high capacity Caravaggio vehicles to meet the needs of regional rail transport. At the same time, the first supply contract for 39 trains was signed, consisting of 25 trains in long composition (five cars) and 14 trains in short composition (four cars), to be produced for Emilia Romagna, with a total contract amount of approximately 340 million Euros. The first homologated vehicle will be delivered in 34 months.
