Hitachi Rail and Prasarana Sign MOU to Advance Malaysia’s Rail Industry and Talent Development

Hitachi Rail strengthens its 30-year partnership with Prasarana to enhance SelTrac™ signalling technology, foster local talent development, and drive sustainable innovation in rail solutions.

  • Hitachi Rail and Prasarana sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to elevate Malaysia’s rail operations and workforce development.
  • The partnership aligns with Malaysia’s National TVET Policy 2030, focusing on skill development and technology transfer.
  • Collaboration includes joint R&D initiatives and opportunities to pursue rail projects in domestic and international markets.

Hitachi Rail, a global leader in smart mobility solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Prasarana, Malaysia’s leading public transport operator, to strengthen their long-standing partnership. The agreement focuses on enhancing the operation and maintenance of SelTrac™ signalling technology, fostering local talent development, and driving innovation in rail solutions for both domestic and international markets.

Since 1998, Hitachi Rail has been a key partner in Malaysia’s rail development, introducing the SelTrac™ Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system on the Kelana Jaya LRT line and upgrading signalling systems for the monorail, Ampang, and Kelana Jaya lines. Recent achievements include commissioning the Integrated Control Center (ICC) to manage three major lines and enhancing the Ampang Line with advanced safety systems. Through the Rail Center of Excellence in Batu Gajah and the Upgrade Project for the Kelana Jaya Line, Hitachi Rail continues to strengthen Malaysia’s rail infrastructure and develop local expertise.

The MOU underscores Hitachi Rail’s commitment to supporting Malaysia’s National TVET Policy 2030, which aims to develop a future-ready workforce equipped with industry-relevant skills.

Key initiatives under the partnership include the joint development of advanced digital tools for predictive maintenance and operational efficiency, as well as R&D collaborations in sustainable railway engineering.

“Hitachi Rail is proud to reaffirm its commitment to Malaysia’s strategic goals for skill development and innovation. Our 30-year partnership with Prasarana and deployment of our SelTrac™ technology has been instrumental in enhancing rail operations, and we look forward to elevating Malaysia’s rail industry,” said Ziad Rizk, Managing Director of the Urban Rail Signalling business at Hitachi Rail.
