Genoa starts trial of Hitachi Rail congestion monitoring system on AMT buses
Hitachi Rail delivers web platform and application which allows AMT to monitor congestion on its services
Italy, 9th June 2021 – AMT and Hitachi Rail are delighted to announce that both companies launched the trial of a congestion monitoring system on city buses in Genoa to ease mobility across the city.
This state-of-the-art system provides live and up to date information on congestion across the network and crowding levels on individual buses. The web portal will allow AMT to constantly monitor the crowding level and location of vehicles and reconfigure their services accordingly to more accurately anticipate passenger demand. The application works by collating data using the Si.Mon. monitoring system developed by the high-tech global company Leonardo and providing operators access to real time information via a web platform.
The new system will operate on 11 buses on Line 3 of the network, a route of 49 stops. The trial, which will run until March 2022, is testament to the leading role both Hitachi Rail and AMT are taking in embedding digital innovation into public transport delivery. It will initially focus on implementation of the web platform and analysis of the first pieces of data, before being rolled out for use on passenger services.
Marco Beltrami, President of AMT, stated: “I would like to thank Hitachi Rail for the opportunity to test this world leading solution here in Genoa. Innovation and technology are two key elements that we are increasingly focused on integrating into the public transport system of Genoa to improve our services and passengers' satisfaction. We are proud to cooperate with partners of high caliber such as Hitachi Rail”.
Christian Andi, Executive Officer, Global Sales & Projects, Hitachi Rail Group, added: “This trial demonstrates again Hitachi Rail’s commitment to continuously investing in innovation which will benefit passengers and service operators alike. We look forward to seeing this trial bringing tangible benefits to Genoa and are focused on working with AMT to maximise the performance of their fleet and provide an increasingly efficient and sustainable service for passengers”.
