Hitachi’s Ashford Depot Two Successful Years On

Hitachi Rail Europe tomorrow celebrates the second anniversary of the £60 million state-of-the-art Ashford Train Maintenance Centre. The train maintenance centre has now taken delivery of all Class 395 trains destined for Southeastern’s high-speed rail service. The final train arrived in the UK on 17 August 2009, bringing the number of units housed in the depot to 29.

Hitachi’s Ashford Depot Two Successful Years On

The train maintenance centre has now taken delivery of all Class 395 trains destined for Southeastern’s high-speed rail service. The final train arrived in the UK on 17 August 2009, bringing the number of units housed in the depot to 29. Before being handed over, all Class 395 trains are commissioned and put through 4,000 miles of fault free running (FFR).

The 29th and final Hitachi train ordered for Southeastern High Speed Services will be unloaded at the Port of Southampton today. The train will arrive in Southampton on board Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics' 67,140 GRT RoRo ship, MV Tamesis and will be transferred by DB Schenker to Hitachi’s state of the art maintenance facility in Ashford for commissioning.

Class 465 Trains with new Hitachi Traction Drivve Handed Back to Southeastern as Scheduled

Hitachi Europe Rail Group today handed back the first Southeastern Class 465 unit with Hitachi traction technology. This prototype unit will start revenue service today. Hitachi was contracted to replace the traction equipment on the 465/0 and 465/1 Networker units. The project is on schedule. Starting in April 2009, the modification of the full fleet will commence at Ashford until April 2010.
